Composition

10 ml of the drug contains:

active ingredient: xylometazoline hydrochloride 5 mg or 10 mg

excipients: sodium chloride, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, disodium hydrogen phosphate, methylparaben, propylparaben, water for injection.

Pharmacodynamics

Xylometazoline belongs to the group of local vasoconstrictors (decongestants) with alpha-adrenomimetic activity, causes narrowing of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, thus eliminating swelling and hyperemia of the nasal mucosa, restores the patency of the nasal passages, facilitates nasal breathing.

The effect of the drug occurs within a few minutes after its application and lasts up to 10 hours.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied topically, xylometazoline is practically not absorbed, so its plasma concentrations are very low (not determined by modern analytical methods).

Indications for use

To reduce swelling of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx and secretions in acute allergic rhinitis, acute respiratory infections with rhinitis, sinusitis, hay fever, otitis media. Preparation of the patient for diagnostic manipulations in the nasal passages.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug; concomitant use of monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors, tricyclic and tetracyclic antidepressants or other drugs that can cause an increase in blood pressure; arterial hypertension, tachycardia; severe atherosclerosis; glaucoma; atrophic rhinitis; surgical interventions on the meninges (in history); children's age up to 2 years for the use of a 0.05% solution and up to 6 years for a 0.1% solution.

With caution - diseases of the cardiovascular system, including coronary heart disease (angina pectoris); prostatic hyperplasia; thyrotoxicosis; diabetes; pheochromocytoma; porphyria; in patients with hypersensitivity to adrenomimetics, accompanied by symptoms of insomnia, dizziness, arrhythmia, tremor and increased blood pressure.

Dosage and administration

Intranasally.

Adults and children over 6 years old   1 injection of a 0.1% solution of the drug in each nasal passage 2-3 times a day.

Children aged 2 to 6 years   apply a 0.05% solution of the drug, 1 injection into each nasal passage 1-2 times a day.

Do not use the drug more than 3 times a day. The course of treatment should not exceed 5-7 days.

Special instructions and precautions

Before use, clean the nasal passages. Should not be used for more than 7 days.

In colds, in cases where crusts form in the nose, it is preferable to prescribe in the form of a gel.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and mechanisms

Usually does not affect the performance and does not complicate the work of drivers of vehicles or control of moving mechanisms.

Use during pregnancy and during breastfeeding

During pregnancy and during breastfeeding, it should be used only after a thorough assessment of the risk-benefit ratio for the mother and fetus, it is not allowed to exceed the recommended doses.

Interaction with other drugs

Incompatible with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.

Side effect

With frequent and / or prolonged use: irritation and / or dryness of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx, burning, paresthesia, sneezing, hypersecretion, swelling of the nasal mucosa, palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmia, increased blood pressure, vomiting, headache, insomnia, blurred vision , fatigue and depression (with prolonged use of high doses).

If any of the side effects listed in the instructions get worse, or if you notice any other side effects not listed in the instructions, tell your doctor.

Overdose

Symptoms: decrease in body temperature, bradycardia, increased blood pressure.

Treatment: symptomatic.

Storage conditions

Store in a cool place below 30°C.

Keep out of the reach of children.

Best before date

3 years. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
